Payroll and Year-end W-2

Upon receipt of payment, funds are appropriated to your account and become available for payroll, expense reimbursement, for funding your retirement plans or paying your medical expenses. iamindependent withholds all the mandatory Federal, State and Local taxes, and any other mandatory withholdings, and remits them to the proper authorities. Since you are our employee, we withhold all the taxes and file the Form 941 under iamindependent's tax id.

Eligibility for Per-diem

Often clients or staffing companies will not pay an independent consultant per-diem even if the nature of the "work for hire" engagement qualifies for per-diem according to IRS guidelines [see IRS Publication 1542]. Also, if you are self-incorporated you are not eligible for certain per-diem allowances from your own corporation [see IRS Publication 463]. However, as your employer we will pay you per-diem if you are eligible to receive per-diem according to IRS guidelines.

Reduced IRS Risk and More Opportunities

iamindependent becomes your employer, thereby eliminating potential risks of IRS sanctions, such as section 1706 of the IRS code. Also, as an employee of iamindependent you are not at risk for small business related IRS audits. In addition, your customers could potentially be liable for your back taxes. However, these risks are mitigated by your employment through iamindependent. Therefore, clients will be more willing to accept you for consulting assignments.
